We outgrew our last supplier, so have spent the last 14 months creating utterly perfect cakes with a larger artisan bakery on the edge of the Cotswolds. To read more, go to the story here:

Here at Grandbar Snacks, we are passionate about the wellbeing of our senior generation. We provide unique high calorie delicious, nutritious and easy-to-eat cake bars for the elderly. Our cakes have a wide selection of natural ingredients to support older people by helping improve their nutritional intake. Nothing beats whole foods to improve the condition and overall health of anyone.
We have targeted our cake bars primarily for the elderly because low appetite and the need for weight gain have been overlooked by the food industry. The vast majority of ‘health’ bars are targeted at gym goers, weight loss or kids.
Grandbars provide natural and delicious mini cakes that contribute to overall health and wellbeing.
We know that a lack of appetite and disinterest in food is often a part of the ageing process, but that doesn’t mean we have to sit back and watch our loved ones ‘fade away’
Mary Merheim first came up with the idea in 2018 to support her own father. Finding a high calorie snack that he wanted to eat and was in some way nutritious was near impossible. She wanted to make something that, initially, appealed to the eye and taste buds! The fact they are packed with goodness makes them even better.
These cakes were made for (and now in memory of) him.
Mary Merheim is a very highly thought of Nutrition Consultant for the Elderly. She has a book published called Navigating Nutrition in Later Life (available on Amazon), is a public speaker on the topic and is often the expert on podcasts and radio.

All our cake bars are vegetarian and gluten free. They are made with natural ingredients including flaxseed, gluten-free oats, almonds, honey, chicory root and dried fruit. Ingredients that mix perfectly to support a healthy diet. These contain a range of vitamins and minerals that have many benefits to an elderly person’s overall wellbeing: –

Our appetite naturally declines with our activity level, but the body still needs good nutrition to keep going and repair itself. Low appetites can also be caused by environmental issues, living alone, bereavement, loneliness and depression. All common in old age. Sometimes elderly people don’t have the energy to cook a ‘proper’ meal.
Our perception of taste and texture of food can change as we age. The meals we used to enjoy can become unpleasant to us. Also, if an elderly person is in a situation where they can’t control the menu, for example in a hospital, a care home or a hospice, the food may not be what they want to eat or be available when they are hungry.
Not eating enough easily becomes a habit and losing weight for the elderly can have many disastrous medical consequences.
